Wall to Wall Workers - Part 3

Sunday 6 May 2018 Pastor Craig Ledbetter Nehemiah 3

I. Introduction

A. The Journey So Far

Over the past weeks we have examined:

  1. The variety of workers who rebuilt the walls
  2. The character qualities that made them effective
  3. The gates and their spiritual significance
  4. The practical lessons for our lives

B. Today’s Conclusion

Today we complete our study of Nehemiah 3 with some final observations and applications.

II. Final Observations from Nehemiah 3

A. The Wall Was Completed

  1. Despite opposition
  2. Despite some refusing to help
  3. Despite the enormity of the task
  4. The work was finished!

B. God Recorded Everything

  1. Every name mentioned
  2. Every section noted
  3. Every contribution remembered
  4. Nothing was forgotten by God

C. The Work Connected

  1. Each section joined to the next
  2. The phrase “after him” or “next unto them” appears throughout
  3. There were no independent workers
  4. Unity was maintained

D. Different Abilities, Same Goal

  1. Some had great skill
  2. Others had simple willingness
  3. All contributed to the same goal
  4. The wall didn’t care who built what section

III. Key Lessons for Today

A. Finishing Is As Important As Starting

  1. Many start well but don’t finish
  2. The reward is for those who complete the work
  3. Perseverance is essential

B. Your Work Matters to God

  1. He sees what you do
  2. He records faithful service
  3. He remembers your labour

C. We Need Each Other

  1. No one builds alone
  2. Your section connects to someone else’s
  3. Gaps affect everyone

D. Excuses Don’t Build Walls

  1. The nobles of Tekoa made excuses
  2. But excuses don’t repair anything
  3. Only work builds walls

E. Opposition Should Be Expected

  1. Sanballat and Tobiah opposed the work
  2. But the workers kept building
  3. Opposition is not a sign to stop

IV. Application

A. What Wall Are You Building?

  1. Your marriage?
  2. Your family?
  3. Your walk with God?
  4. Your ministry?

B. Are You Connected?

  1. Working alongside others?
  2. Part of a local church?
  3. In fellowship with believers?

C. Will You Finish?

  1. Don’t quit when it gets hard
  2. Don’t stop when opposition comes
  3. Keep building until God says you’re done

D. What Will God Record About You?

  1. Faithful worker or noble who refused?
  2. Someone who did their part or who made excuses?
  3. A builder or a critic?

V. Conclusion

The walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt in 52 days because ordinary people did extraordinary work. They worked together, they stayed faithful, and they finished the task.

God is still looking for wall-to-wall workers today. Will you be one of them?
