How to Keep Serving the Lord

I. Introduction (Colossians 3:22-25)

A. Listen to what God expects of servants…

1. To obey other people’s commands in all things
2. To fear displeasing God (forget about displeasing your boss/employer)
3. To do EVERYTHING we do heartily - with passion - with all our hearts
4. Do it as if you were serving the Lord Jesus personally
5. Serve for God’s approval and reward, not for loss!

B. All of that is hard to do - always has been

C. Serving the Lord is not easy

1. There are discouragements
2. There are disappointments
3. There are failures
4. There is opposition

II. Keys to Keep Serving

A. Remember WHO You Are Serving

1. Not men, but the Lord
2. Not for earthly reward, but heavenly
3. Not for temporary praise, but eternal glory

B. Remember WHY You Are Serving

1. Because Christ served you first
2. Because you love Him
3. Because others need what you have to offer

C. Remember HOW to Serve

1. With singleness of heart
2. Not with eye-service as men-pleasers
3. In sincerity, fearing God

D. Remember WHAT Awaits You

“Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” - Colossians 3:24

III. Practical Steps to Keep Going

A. Stay in the Word daily

B. Stay connected to the church

C. Stay accountable to others

D. Stay focused on Jesus
