I preached this at a prison ministry one time.  It was a lot of fun and really got the gospel message across.  You can probably tell I was nervous about it by the way I wrote the notes.  If anyone wants, I have the signs (about 45K or so for all of them).  –Alan

 

 

Drivers Education

Text:  John 6:63-64a

 

I.                     Introduction.

A.      Conviction about speeding.

B.     Driving to Alexandria. [personal testimony about being obedient to the big white sign with black letters]

C.     Pray.

 

II.                   Death.

A.      Wrong Way (put up wrong way sign).

1.      The scariest sign on the road.

2.      Astray from the womb (Psalm 58:3).

3.      As the sparks fly upward (Job 5:7).

4.      (Romans 3:10; 23).

B.     Destination:  Hell.

1.      Why?  (Romans 5:12; Romans 6:23a).

2.      What death?  (Revelation 20:14) (put up destination hell sign).

C.     Stop.

1.      For a while, the way might seem right (Proverbs 14:12).

2.      Something is wrong!  Realize you are lost and STOP! (Put up Stop sign).

 

III.                  Reconciliation With God.

A.      One Way.

1.      Pull out your map (Psalm 119:105).

2.      Get some directions from your map.

a.      God has something for you (Romans 6:23b).

b.      How can that be? (Romans 5:8).

c.      It’s by the blood (Colossians 1:12-14) (Put up Only sign).

d.      It’s only by Him (Acts 4:12; John 14:6) (Put up One Way sign).

B.     U-Turn.

1.      So you’re lost, you pull out your map, get good directions, what do you do then?  Turn around! (Put up U-Turn sign).

2.      (Mark 1:14).

a.      Repent.

b.      Believe the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1).

c.      Romans (10:9-10).

d.      Repent, believe the gospel, and be saved.

 

IV.                Life.

A.      No U-Turn.

1.      You know, once you make that U-Turn, there’s no going back?

2.      (1 John 5:13) (Put up No Uturn sign).

3.      Kept by His power! (1Peter 1:3-5).

4.      No man can take it away! (John 10:27-29).

B.     No Left Turn/No Right Turn.

1.      Once we are on the right road, there are some things we need to keep in mind (Proverbs 4:25-27) (Put up no left/right turn signs).

2.      Keep his commandments (John 14:15).

3.      Put the past behind (1 Corinthinas 6:9-11).

4.      Walk in the newness of life! (2 Corinthians 5:17).

 

C.     No Stopping.

1.      Don’t stop either.  We are commanded to move forward (2 Peter 3:18) (put up No Stopping sign).

2.      How?

a.      Through the Word of God (2 Timothy 2:15).

b.      Through the preaching of the Word (Romans 10:17).

3.      Don’t let temptation stop you (1 Corinthians 10:13).

4.      Let’s look at these folks for a minute

a.      (Hebrews 5:12-14).

b.      What happened?  They stopped.

D.     Yield.

1.      It all comes down to dying to yourself and living for Christ (Galatians 2:20).

2.      It’s hard to stray when you’re yielded.

3.      (Luke 9:23).  This is the disciple’s great desire.  To die to himself, pick up his cross and follow Jesus.

E.     Rest Stop.

1.      And you’ll get tired along the way, but we have a promise (Matthew 11:28-30). (Put up rest stop sign).

2.      And He gives us just what we need right when we need it (Isaiah 40:28:31).

F.      Destination: Heaven.

1.      Then there’s the best part.  We have a blessed hope (Titus 2:11-14).

2.      Paul said that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

3.      We have a new destination (put up destination: heaven sign).

4.      1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; Revelation 4:1.

 

V.                  Conclusion.

A.      2 Timothy 4:6-8.

B.     Are you fighting the good fight?  Are you on course?

C.     Have them stand.

D.     Are you headed the wrong way?  Turn around before it’s too late.

E.     Are you struggling along the way?  Just yield to the Lord.
