Abortion in Ireland?

"Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not." (Matthew 2:16-18)

March 6th is the date that Ireland as a nation will yet once again vote whether abortion of children is to be legal. This question has been dealt with two times in nation-wide votes already, but each time, the issue never gets settled. So, the referendum this time seeks to place the protection of the life of the unborn baby into the Irish Constitution itself.

"The objective of the 25th amendment, entitled Protection of Human Life in Pregnancy, is to resolve the unsatisfactory legal situation regarding abortion that has existed since the X Case judgment in 1992," claimed an Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern.

According to Matthew 2:16-18

A.      Herod murdered an entire town’s population of infants

B.       We Christians know that it was murder, and was wrong – morally wrong – not just an injustice against humanity

C.       But today, IRISH people are calling for the murder of infants that are yet unborn, and calling it “termination,” and “abortion.” The Bible calls it MURDER!

D.      So, What is the Referendum about?

1.        There is a pressure to change society on a world-wide scale, and make all of life “a-moral,” (without any moral basis of right and wrong)

2.        It is about allowing legalised murder of the unborn in an ever-increasing scope

3.        It’s about numbing us all to what is really going on

a.       Pro-abortionists refer to abortion as “interruption” rather than even terminating a pregnancy.

b.       They talk of “evacuating the contents of the uterus” or of “removing post conceptive fertility content.”

c.       They refer to the unborn baby as “potential human life” when it is obvious that the life in the womb is both human, and very alive!

d.       They also use a Latin term, foetus so that people don’t think of a beautify pink baby that is about to be cut up, or burned with acid!

e.       And then comes the issues of “women’s rights” and the right to medical “procedures.”

f.        All of this makes the question about abortion more and more complex in people’s minds

The Biblical Perspective on Abortion

A.      When Does Life Begin? Let’s listen to the Author of Life – God!

1.        The Bible uses a wonderful phrase to describe pregnancy (Gen 16:11; 1Sam 4:19). Even in incest and rape, the unborn baby is said to be a CHILD (Gen 19:36)

2.        Life begins at conception

a.       There is no gap between conception of life, and true life, where a person can morally terminate that pregnancy.

b.       For convenience:

1)       People draw a line at birth, when the baby is breathing

2)       Most, who have seem photographs of babies IN THE WOMB hesitate to allow for abortion if the baby LOOKS like a baby – they allow it if it is only a few days or weeks old.

c.       But according to the Bible, the life of a baby is fully HUMAN (not animal, or an accident), and to be protected

1)       Elisabeth’s baby, John the Baptist was not a foetus – he was a SON before birth (Luke 1:36)

2)       John the Baptist is called a BABY 3 months before his birth (Luke 1:41,44)

3)       John was a spiritual being BEFORE birth, and the Holy Spirit FILLED him.

4)       God actively takes part in the growth of the baby in the womb

a)       The Lord opened her womb and helped her conceive (Gen 29:31,32)

b)       God made both Job and his servants IN THE WOMB (Job 31:15)

c)       God formed Jacob “in the womb” (Isa 44:2, 24)

d)       David praised God for making him in his mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-16)

e)       In other words, conception is not by accident, and the organism is not incidental. And the terminating of the organism is not “treatment!”

d.       God gives strict rules about what happens when people’s actions bring about an accidental miscarriage of a baby’s life (Ex 21:22,23)

1)       “If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, …”

a)       If a woman is hurt by a quarrel between two men, and she goes into labour

2)       “…and yet no mischief follow:…”

a)       Neither she nor the baby actually is hurt

b)       She may be frightened and upset, and have had an early delivery, but not hurt.

3)       “…he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.”

a)       To hurt a woman with child is wicked

b)       The one responsible for hurting her shall be punished

4)        “And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life” (Ex 21:23)

a)       But if EITHER the woman OR the baby die…

b)       That man must die! (Ex 21:24,25; 20:13)

B.       The Sovereignty of God

1.        God is sovereign in all things – including the quality of a child’s life

a.       The Nazis taught that some human life did not deserve to live.

1)       So they killed off the unwanted, the lame, the retarded, and even disabled veterans of WWI

2)       From there, they turned their attitude towards the Polish, and then the Jews

b.       When people set themselves up as God to determine whether someone’s life is worth living, they are dethroning God

c.       Moses was born with a speech impediment, but God said that it was HE that made Moses that way (Ex 4:11)!

2.        Problem pregnancies

a.       When the life of the baby in the womb, threatens the life of the mother (tubule-pregnancy, etc), then there is just cause to remove the child from the fallopian tubes, and let him or her die if there is no other way of saving the baby.

b.       When a woman is having trouble carrying the baby to full-term, then the mother has to be given all the medical attention necessary to help her deliver the baby

c.       If a woman becomes suicidal, the woman must be treated – the baby should be left alone

3.        Abortionists

a.       Abortionists are murderers

b.       They need to go to jail - for the rest of their lives!

c.       There is no death penalty anymore in Ireland, but if it is ever possible to bring it back, abortionists should qualify for the death penalty.

Conclusion

A.      Why a Bible Believer votes in FAVOUR of the referendum – why vote YES? Bible believing Christians will vote YES in favour because:

1.        The issue is not about the woman's right, or the unborn's right - it's about "what saith the Scriptures?" It is a moral issue that God has already spoken clearly about and determined that abortion is murder.

2.        It is GOD that gives life, from the moment of conception (John 1:4), and forms the human from the moment of conception (Psalm 139:14-16).

3.        Jeremiah 1:5 says that God called him, and had a job for him to do when as yet he had not even been born, but was still in the womb.

4.        John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Ghost when he was in Elisabeth's womb (Luke 1:15)

5.        The taking of a human life is wrong, except in self-defence, and only then, when the situation is one that the person doing the wrong, is intending to kill (Ex 20:13; 21:22,23).

6.        It forces the government to deal with crisis pregnancies carefully and morally instead of treating them simply with abortion. Abortion is not a treatment for suicidal patients, even if they HAVE been raped and become pregnant.

1.        This referendum will restore legal protection to the unborn child, which had been previously removed by the judgment in the X-case of 1994. Right now, abortion on demand is becoming more and more feasible in legislation because there is nothing to stop it from becoming law.

2.        It would force Ireland as a nation to decide to reduce the already growing abortion rate as its daughters race across the Irish Channel to England at the rate of 5000 – 7000 a year

3.        This is our opportunity to LIMIT the murdering of innocent unborn children – can’t stop it in other countries, but we have the chance to keep it out of here!

4.        Because most every political party is against the referendum – which means that the probability of it being the right thing to vote for is all the better!

B.       What if people vote No?

1.        Threat of Suicide will be a valid reason to murder a baby.

2.        Doctors with moral reasons for not performing abortion will be forced to murder babies or lose their license to practice.

3.        The right to the use of the morning after pill will become protected by law. Any woman who wants to have an abortion, will be entitled to free air fare to the U.K. for the purpose of obtaining an abortion of their baby – at the tax-payer’s expense. All of society will have blood on its hands!

4.      People will only continue to live ungodly lives trusting that abortion will always be there to “get them out of a fix” if something goes wrong.

Don’t ignore this opportunity to vote the Biblical choice! Vote Yes!
