Summary – What kind of a world did Noah live in?

I.       Review From Last Week - We learned last week, Who Noah was

A.    His name means, “Rest”

B.     He lived a long, long, LONG time ago! About 4,500 years ago. He lived before the Pyramids were built, or Newgrange, or even Stonehenge in England.

C.     He and Mrs. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth (Ge 5:32) and they each had wives.

D.    He loved his wife, and his family, But he loved God the most!

E.     He was 500 years old when God actually spoke to him (people lived very long back then)

F.      It was very rare for someone to be like Noah way back then!

G.    So, what was so special about Noah and his family?

1.      He was a just man – it means he was a good man. He was right with God – righteous, moral, godly – that means Noah was:

2.      He was “perfect in his generations”. Noah put God first in his life. He made some decisions back when he was 10 years old that kept him from doing all the sins that everybody else was doing

3.      He walked with God – the greatest thing about Noah!

H.    That’s why God made us! That’s why we were born – to know God, to love God, and to walk with God through every day!

I.       The World in Which Noah Lived (Genesis 6:1-11)

A.    It wasn’t easy for Noah and his family to walk with God!

B.     Not everybody was like Noah and his family.

C.     People had no concern for God at all – didn’t go to church, or read the Bible. They just went on with their lives, excluding God, rejecting the evident truth of creation, and of divine judgment of sin

D.    The imagination of EVERYONE was ONLY evil CONTINUALLY (6:5)

E.     The whole world was filled with violence (6:11)

F.      God was grieved (very sad) that He had even made the world – it was THAT bad!

G.    And Then There was Noah - In the midst of such darkness, and at the precipice of such imminent destruction, Noah was faithfully living and going against the flow, and just simply walked with God

I.       It was A Different World than Today
